Basic Disaster Life Support Training - Region 2 South
As announced at regional meetings and in previous correspondence, Region 2 South Healthcare Coalition will again host a series of Basic Disaster Life Support (BDLS) courses in Budget Period 4 (BP4) 2022-2023. BDLS is a comprehensive, nationally-standardized family of all-hazards training programs developed by the National Disaster Life Support (NDLS) consortium of academic, state and federal centers.
This year, Region 2 South will be hosting three courses. The final course for BP4 2022-2023 is scheduled for 2-9-23. Nursing, physician, and EMS credits are available.
BDLS is a pre-requisite for the Advanced Disaster Life Support (ADLS) – the next course in the NDLS training program. Region 2 South is pleased to announce that, situation permitting, we will host one ADLS course in May 2023 as a regional initiative. Information will be distributed once registration opens for the course.
New Format
The BDLS training on 2-9-23 will utilize a new team-based learning structure in which a series of modules are to be completed online by students prior to the event. On the day of the training, students will be grouped to participate in various discussions based on scenarios that will elicit knowledge from the completed modules. This format enables students to absorb the course content at their own pace prior to the event and interact with peers during a series of facilitated scenarios to discuss learned principles.
Attendance will not be marked for certification unless the pre-event modules and day-of participation are both completed.
The course flyer with full details and registration instructions are above. Those with existing accounts on the NDLS Foundation’s web site should utilize their current accounts to register for the training. Also, all registered students are advised to download the eBook prior to the course. Hardcover books will no longer be provided.
NOTICE: Failure to attend this course after downloading the course textbook will result in Region 2 South charging the course registration fee back to you. Do not download the course textbook if you do not have a firm commitment to attend this course.
As a reminder for those who have taken this course in previous years: the BDLS certification is valid for 3 years. If you have taken this course prior to 2020, this is a good opportunity to renew an expired certification.
