About DEMCA
Mission Statement
The Detroit East Medical Control Authority (DEMCA) is one of sixty-one Medical Control Authorities (MCA) in the State of Michigan. DEMCA serves as the MCA for the cities of Detroit, Grosse Pointe, Grosse Pointe Farms, Grosse Pointe Park, Grosse Pointe Woods, Hamtramck, Harper Woods, Highland Park, and the Village of Grosse Pointe Shores; and/or any other area of the region as defined by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, Division of EMS and Trauma. Our mission is to protect and improve the health and well being of our citizens who require emergency medical services.
Purposes of DEMCA
- To organize and participate in efforts to maintain and enhance quality emergency medical services in the DEMCA area.
- To develop and update protocols for the provision of emergency medical services for the practice of life support agencies and licensed medical services personnel for a patient before care is transferred to hospital personnel relating to operations, clinical care, and communications in the defined geographical area.
- To serve as the MCA designee of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, Bureau of EMS, Trauma and Preparedness.
